SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEM IN KARGIL

 

·        Solar Water Heating System (WHS) is a water heating device with 100-3000 LPD which could be installed anywhere for heating water for any purpose in households & institutions.

·        Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) had to first cover a target of 10,000 sqm collector area in Kargil under Water Heating System.

·        Our agency is a Government agency and is accepting grants from various government and private organizations for installing or introducing new renewable energy technologies and devices in the region.

·        It has been noticed since last few years that the people of this area has become much aware of the fragile environment of the region and have been giving preference to renewable source of energy devices for household use.

·        KREDA is pleased note that we have nearly completed an area of 10,000 sqm collector area under Solar Water Heater.

·        Further the agency is trying to get some grants for the same purpose.

 

 

SYSTEM COST (SUBSIDY COMPONENT):

 

·        We have been proving subsidy of 60% off for residential use and 90% off for Govt. buildings.

·        While the subsidy for commercial purpose is little low which is 40% off.

BENEFICIARY:

·        Every interested individual of the region can become its beneficiary by getting the system installed at his/her place.

·        The system can also be installed in institutions, such as schools, hospitals, army establishments, hostels etc.

 

 

PROGRESS:

 

·        During 2014 KREDA has installed 570 systems of WHSs which went upto 1500 in the year 2015 which further extended to 2500 numbers in 2016. By the end of 2017 it has come up to nearly covering the whole target of 10,000 collector area.

 

 

ADVANTAGES:

·        As the system is a solar energy device, it is purely ecological and environment friendly. The region of Kargil-Zanskar area has been a fragile environmental zone where in the climate is very much in its origin. In order to keep this balance with the globe and avoid any sort of dangerous climate change it is necessary to let people aware of renewable energy technologies and devices. KREDA has been working on the same agenda since years. It is expected by introducing this technology of heating water with a renewable device shall help in keeping the area neat and clean from any kind of pollution or pollutant.

·        Since it doesn’t require any fuel to heat water, the annual saving of several tons of firewood is a great advantage.

·        Annual saving of several kilo litters of diesel has also come up. As most of the households were using diesel and kerosene to heat water, prior to the introduction of SWHS.

·        The system is Eco-friendly.

·        Thus the system can help a lot in reducing deforestation and desertification process in the area.

·        The system would benefit local people by improving living in unhealthy winter conditions.

·        It has also been proven that the system is less time consuming & Affordable.

·        It’s also a Luxury for common man.

 

Prior to the introduction of solar water heating system the people in Kargil used large amount of fuel like kerosene, wood, cow-dung and gas for boiling or warming water for bathing and washing clothes. The water heating system has played an important role in saving the fossil fuel and preserving the environment. There is a growing demand for this system. People in large number are visiting KREDA with applications for the solar water heater.

 

SELECTION OF SYSTEM:

 

For a house with one bathroom and 3 to 4 members, 100 liter per day capacity system should be sufficient. For more numbers of bathrooms, the capacity will increase accordingly due to pipe losses & more number of family members. Generally the capacity is decided based on hot water required in mornings for bathing. If the usage is in evening & at other times also, the capacity is decided accordingly.

 

Evacuated Tube Collector based systems may perform better in colder regions and avoid freezing problem during sub-zero temperature. That’s why KREDA has been giving priority to ETC. Flat Plate Collector based systems also perform good in colder regions if they are used with anti-freeze solution and heat exchanger but then their cost increases.

System can be installed either by contacting our officials at KREDA Office or the members of the executing agency during the office hour.
